Red Bridge Road News

March 15, 2007 |

The folks fighting a super-expansion of Red Bridge Road report that outgoing City Councilman Chuck Eddy is using a rare parliamentary procedure to force the issue out of committee and bring it to a vote of the full City Council.  The guy sure is tenacious.  The issue has pretty destroyed his political career, with less than 400 of his own constituents voting for him in the mayoral primary.

Opponents have organized a letter writing campaign to stop Eddy’s last minute maneuver.  You can learn more and add your voice to the campaign at www.redbridgeroad.org.

Even more interesting is how this whole controversy shows that Kansas Citians are starting to become interested in the livable streets movement.  There are other examples around town, but Red Bridge Road is the most visible right now.

The Red Bridge issue isn’t doing Alvin Brooks any good either, yet he hasn’t got a clue.

The Barnes-Eddy-Brooks-Fairfield faction is as out of touch with reality as the Bush administration.

Time for a wake up call…

Those of us who live along Red Bridge Road enjoy our neighborhood as it is… without the JohnsonCountyesq roads. Yes, it can be difficult to get out of the driveway during the afternoon rush - but then again, where isn’t it? Once the MODOT morons get the Grandview Triangle (and NO - I will not call it that new, softer, kinder, revisionist, moronic name) completed, there shouldn’t be as much traffic. Please don’t believe the spin Chuck Eddy and Alvin Brooks’ mouthpiece (John Fairfield) put on it… because we can tell you “If you build it… they will come”. And by this we mean more cars and lots of semi-trucks for the new NAFTA Hub at Richards Gebaur. This will only cause the deterioration of our neighborhood. But maybe that is what the current City Council is trying to accomplish.
