This afternoon the Red Bridge Road project will come up for a vote at City Hall after embattled Councilmember Chucky Eddy used a parliementary trick to force a last minute decision by the lame duck Council. The Friends of Red Bridge Road need folks to call and write Councilmembers to stop the condemnation process and let the incoming Council decide the fate of this project.

The vote on condemning land for the Red Bridge project will come Thursday afternoon at City Hall.

Here’s what you can do to stop it:

1. Call the numbers below and leave a message saying that you want ordinance 061247 voted down. You can find suggested talking points at the link below.

2. Go to http://www.pacificcentury.net/redbridgeroad/no_ram_through.php and send a message to the whole City Council. This is a new message, so please send it even if you participated in last week’s campaign.

Thank you for your ongoing support in defense of our neighborhoods!

Craig Morea
Friends of Red Bridge

I am beyond disgusted with this council. I spent 4 hours last night measuring sidewalks and taking pictures because of their egos and insanity.

I wish I could take comfort in the fact that my group is not the only one they are screwing over, but that’s a cold comfort at best. It is reprehensible for a lame duck council to become loose cannons and ram as much crap through as they can before they leave.

I do not want to see this community or area destroyed with this project. The numbers justifying this appear to be rather shaky and while the facts don’t matter to this council, they should.

hey blogkc, let’s liven this place up a bit and make it our main KC political blog. The buzz blog is pretty boring, attracting mainly a few geeks who obsess over national politics - it’s like watching a start trek convention for the politically-challenged.

    c’mon…….whaddaya say?

Well at least John Fairfield will make his mark for his 4 year term in city hall to stop panhandlers. Lets give John a big hand.

The vote was set for today, but it has been put off yet again. Today, the reason was that Chuck Eddy is in the hospital. (Dave Helling reported on primebuzz that he was hospitalized last Thursday with a heart condition.)

However, the issue was discussed in the business session this afternoon. Most of that consisted of city staff attempting to mislead the council. I was told that there would be no public testimony in the business session. Guess what, someone decided that there would be, and the handful of supports who exist for this huge project were clearly notified in advance.

That kind of treatment is typical.

Do you really think Fairfield stopped panhandlers? He only forced them into different areas. And only the ones who obey the law anyway. The others will continue doing what they do.

I’m glad that the vote was put off again and I wish that more people would have been notified that they could speak. As usual, only a few ’special’ people were notified, so that the illusion of fairness could be maintained. “See some people got to testify. If the detractors cared they would have been here.”

What were you measuring sidewalks for, Stacey and what district do you live in? You sound like you know and understand exactly what we’re going through with Red Bridge. Fortunately, we will soon have a new council and mayor. Hopefully, they will be more responseive than what we’ve had for the last 8 years, but maybe we should get together. If we could form a coalition across the City, we’d have a lot more clout.

I am from the Kansas City Street Artist Association and I was measuring sidewalks to prove that their new ordinance was BS.

You can find my email on http://www.kcstreetart.com We should get together to see how we can help each other.

Need to call Brooks Monday -Wed,. or e-mail him. Keep the phones ringing

  9. Craig Morea on March 31, 2007 4:22 pm

Brooks doesn’t read his email, and in my experience, his aide screens it.

Calling the others on the list above would also be appreciated.

To email the whole council, please go to http://www.redbridgeroad.org/no_ram_through.php

Brooks doesn’t do email, so you’ll have to call.
