Councilman Chuck Eddy has succeeded in his highly controversial attempt get council approval for replacement of the Red Bridge and ultimate expansion of Red Bridge Road in the southland.  Amid accusations of back-room dealing, yesterday the council passed an ordinance allowing for condemnation of property in the bridge’s path.

The Friends of Red Bridge Road are already organizing a petition drive to delay the ordinance for 30 days, at which time the new and more sympathetic mayor and council will be in place.

I was on that road yesterday at 6:02pm. 71 was backed up for some reason or other, like it normally is & I needed to get to the Martin City area. I exited at Red Bridge and there WAS NO TRAFFIC. I think the numbers have been manipulated to make it appear that this area is more highly traveled than it is. As for the train blocking emergency vehicles…what about the many many other train crossings in town that do that too. Are they going to build a bridge over all of them? If the bridge needs work, wouldn’t it be CHEAPER to fix it instead of destroying the area to build a giant new bridge?

I’ve interacted with Chuck Eddy about this and I’m astonished at his defensiveness on this. I think he knows he’s championing business rather than his constituents in that neighborhood.

His craftless ramrodding of this issue in the waning days of the Barnes City Council really, really, really makes him look bad.

What did you all from Red Bridge think after Eddy and Fairfield didn’t win the election.

A lot of the council looks very bad. I just watched the council video and behavior was not nice. Deb Herman was speaking and the Mayor apparently cuts her off to allow Brooks to speak again.

I don’t know a lot about the Red Bridge area, but all you have to do is look at Chuck Eddy to know he’s a turd. What ever made him think he had a chance to be elected mayor, I’ll never understand. Funkhouser scares me a little too, though. I am hoping for the best, but at least he’s not Eddy.

I don’t think Eddy’s a turd. What I am upset with are his actions on this matter, not *him*. He can be very helpful at times. I just disagree vehemently with him on this issue. I certainly don’t think it’s right to judge his moral soul based on his looks.

Of course Eddy can be helpful. Politicians want to be loved; it’s a disease they have. That’s what makes Eddy so funny: He wanted to be loved more than most — he surely has the affection of his master Kay Barnes — but he managed to piss off just about everyone else in town.

The day after light rail passed, Eddy was on TV saying “We might just have to reject this altogether” is forever etched in my mind. HELLO, it is a vote of the people, who the hell does Chuck Eddy think he is?

As much of an irritation Eddy has been, I defy any of you to improve upon things and run for office yourselves. Once in office, please review the civic blogs to see how much you are all loved.

Hey Tim, I was at a mayoral forum in January where Chuck Eddy said that when he heard that the light rail initiative had passed “I was so excited that light rail was coming to Kansas City”.

The man is incapable of telling the truth.

So, kcmoguy, though it’s impossible to please all of the people all of the time, I’m sure that it would be easy as pie to be better respected than Eddy.

  11. kcmoguy on April 16, 2007 6:23 am

    I could accept that.

How popular is the new bridge with the people who live around there? Is it hated by all or is support split?

The bridge is in the 6th district and both brooks and eddy support it. How much do their thoughts on the bridge align with the total population of the 6th?

  13. Larry T on April 18, 2007 9:58 pm

Have people from other parts of town sign up to let more than one council person know that people out south don’t like the bridge.

  14. Tim on April 19, 2007 7:48 am

I signed the petition yesterday to delay it. As far as I can tell, NO ONE in the district wants the bridge.

  15. upChuck on April 20, 2007 7:47 am

I have seen a few old people who can’t drive anymore pulling for it.

They been here all their lives and NOW it’s some kind of emergency for them.

The 6th district has been either neglected (by Brooks) or abused (by Chucky) for 8 years now.

I heard some guy signing the petition say “Anything Chuck Eddy’s for, I’m against”.

That’s how we thinking out here, bill.
