How high’s the water, papa?
May 7, 2007 |
It’s five feet high and rising, as Johnny Cash would say. Sunday’s rain marathon is predicted to continue today and Tuesday. Streams, rivers, and streets are flooding all over the metro. The Missouri River at Downtown is up 15 feet and expected to rise 10 more, reaching 41 feet on Wednesday. KMBC-TV has a list of closed streets. Don’t drive through standing water, because the TV news already has a full supply of dumbasses getting rescued from stranded cars.
UPDATE: Various news media report that residents of Brush Creek is out of its banks east of the Plaza, residents of Buckner and Sibley in northeastern Jackson County are being evacuated to an emergency shelter, I-29 is closed north of St. Joseph, KCP&L has closed the Iatan power plant near Weston in anticipation of flooding, and Riverside is considering closing the floodgates across Hwy 9.

Very informative post
There should be a channel on cable about people who drive through standing water.
