Kay 4 Congress online

May 15, 2007 |

Kay Barnes’ campaign site is up at kay4congress.com.  Someone please tell NorthStar to get a new web template.  You also need to update Kay’s logo, it’s the same on she used back on 1999 and 2003.  Oh, and how about info on where she stands on the issues, if it isn’t too much trouble.

Kay never knows where she stands on issues. She has to form committees to do studies first.

She’ll make Northwest Missouri the next Branson! TIF, baby, TIF!

    Graves/Roe v. Barnes/Gray

What the hell kinda choice is that?

I hope they both die in a mud fight to the death.

Hold your horses there, tiger. It’s very early in this race, and you ought to cut Barnes some slack for not having a more extensive website on day one. It’s like 18 months until the election, so why on earth would any campaign already be laying out detailed positions on the issues?

I’ll grant you that logo is terrible, but the the site isn’t nearly as bad as you make it out to be, especially for a brand new campaign. You’re not actually rooting for Graves to win, are you? Now that would be really sad.

kiki do you work for NorthStar? You seem to be hyper-sensitive whenever someone criticizes them or their candidates.

Barnes has been looking at this race for at least a year, maybe two. That’s plenty to time compose at least 2-3 pages of info on her positions and agenda.

No one is asking for detailed position papers, just a sense of where Barnes stands. Does she support or oppose the Iraq War? Where does she stand on health care issues? Education? She’s not going to avoid these questions for the entire campaign so why not give us an idea of where she stands now?

In short, why exactly is Kay Barnes running for Congress? Is it because Steve Glorioso told her it was a good idea, or does she actually want to accomplish something?

Kay is against the Iraq invasion, like most Americans. Watch the news, at least occasionally. When she announced she was running, the bulk of her speech was spent tying Graves to Bush and the war, and making it clear that she was against both. I guess most people here wish that, as mayor, she would have ignored downtown and just let it continue to crumble, eventually losing all of our convention business. Come on people, look to the future.

bksider, I had no idea I was being “hyper-sensitive” about anything, nevermind knowing whoever Northstar’s clients are. I don’t work for them, and I’ve never even met Pat Gray before in my life. And other than refusing to join in the “Funk is Great, Brooks is Bad” charade that we saw on these blogs, I’m not aware that I’ve been a staunch defender of Northstar. But thanks for playing.

That said, I am tired of people being HYPER-CRITICAL of everything Barnes does. Seriously, do you all actually want Sam Graves to stay in Congress? Or would you rather see a Democrat win that seat? If you’re against the war, support a working wage, cleaner air, and on and on, then you might want to think about exactly what your incessant nay-saying is really accomplishing.

And Tim is right. If you watched the news, read the paper or actually went to her website and read what’s there, you’ll probably get some idea of where she stands on some issues and why she’s running. Meanwhile, I’m sure we can all safely assume that Barnes is a Democrat who will be supportive of the overall Democratic platform like supporting public schools and health care. Do any of you for a heartbeat doubt that she won’t be better on these issues than a Bush loyalist like Sam Graves?

Like Tim said, look to the future, and embrace the chance for Democrats to take back a Republican seat.

I did go to her web site and “read what’s there.” There is a remarkable lack of details about Barnes stands for. The same is true of reading the “news.” All I learned is Kay Barnes thinks Sam Graves is a rat bastard. Great.

Maybe NorthStar could post the full text of Barnes’ remarks, but that’s probably giving away too much.

As for whether I “want” Graves to hold his seat, I’m fairly indifferent. Both candidates have, at best, mediocre records. Let’s not pretend Kay is the savior of Kansas City or Sam Graves is a “man of the people.” The only thing this race promises is that it will probably be one of the nastier races in 2008.

Thanks, Kiki, I agree, nobody’s gonna be perfect, but Kay was a good mayor and KC is a better place to live, a better place to work, and a better place to live because we elected her twice. Downtown is the heart of any city, and because she worked hard to make it happen, KC’s heart is beating again. I wish people would stop being so negative. We are moving forward and becoming a vibrant city again.

Compare Graves’ constituent service record with that of Barnes. There is no comparison. That is why this Democrat will keep voting for Graves.

  14. Erick on June 10, 2007 7:51 pm

Kay is a great candidate for Congress. We’ve had a rubber stamp in Graves. Now he will have to actually defend his record and explain it, no more free ride Graves. He will bring his nasty politics and claim to be a good boy scout.

Geez…….logo criticism, website critique…are these the things you focus on when evaluating a candidate? I never known Kay to not be clear on an issue…that is what makes her unique. Get the fatts, they are all around you.

This lifelong Republican will consider supporting Kay……..if, and only if, she is concise and clear in support of zero earmarks and limited government…….ala Claire McCaskill/Pat Danner. I sent her an e-mail with specific questions about two months ago and have received no response……not good!!!! Graves’ record is not good in this area but a left wing tax and spend alternative is not what the sixth district needs.
