UMB art commune

May 15, 2007 |

Banker J. Mariner Kemper has emptied out the 13-story Ozark Building at 906 Grand and is offering it up to arts groups — an hip, innovative way for stodgy old money to display philanthropy and stave off criticism about property rot. The “pARTnership place at UMB” (no “at sign”?) has snagged the Metropolitan Arts Council, Kaufmann Center for the Performing Arts, and the Charlotte Street Foundation. Rent is free, and the groups are encouraged to develop “centralized resource staff.” Future plans include a cafe, gallery and meeting space on the ground floor.

Sheesh, why do so many people just assume that money is synonymous with evil? Believe it or not, people sometimes actually do good things with extra money. Too many people here have a chip on their shoulders.
