What, are you a total wuss? That’s what umbrellas are for. Brave the rain because the art kids need you… the Crossroads needs you. It won’t be flooding at 19th and Baltimore, we promise. Shhhh… the hipper galleries are east of Main now.
- Intimate Apparel, Pi Gallery, 419 E. 18th. Twenty-three artists and 37 works that are “wildly diverse and inspired.”
- Wired: New Works by Mark H. Cowardin, DalArts Gallery, 518 E. 18th. Mixed media (pipes! bark!) from the head of JCCC’s sculpture department.
- Idiotic Ideologies by Gear with musical guests Joe Good and Panic, The Mercy Seat, 210 E. 16th.
- From the Fat of the Land: Alchemies, Ecologies, Attractions with Filip Noterdaeme and Tavares Strachan, Grand Arts, 1819 Grand.
- Marking the Everyday, Dorthy Caldwell; On Pins and Needles, Annet Couwenburg; Tranquil Moment, Kyoung Ae Cho; Belger Arts Center, 2100 Walnut.
- Terry McGraw, #8 Gallery, 1600 Locust.
Non-gallery action:
- Foodies should check out a trial run of organic food market Bad Seed (1909 McGee) and raw/vegan restaurant FuD (1911 McGee).
- Flip some glossy pages at Magazines and Coffee (1722 Main) while listening to Rex Hobart and the Misery Boys… and ask for regular evening hours.
- Don’t forget that chocolatier Christopher Elbow has moved to a stunning new space at 1819 McGee, next to Tomboy.
- Innovative programming continues at Screenland with a showing of This is Spinal Tap and Guitar Hero 2 tournament.
- You can’t avoid the Kansas City Gay Pride Street Blast — which will be shimmying and shaking on two blocks of Main Street, weather permitting — any why should you? Be sure to say “Haaaay!” to that guy in accounting that you were sure was straight… he might buy you a Miller Lite.
And please don’t bitch about the parking.

@BlogKC
Thanks for the great post. My wife and I stopped by FUD and the line was too long and the kitchen looked stretched, but the menu and clientele were great. We’ll definitley be back to FUD to eat very soon.
And thanks for highlighting east of main.
“What else is done there besides ART?”
That’s like going to a Chiefs’ game and asking,
“What is there to do here besides watching football?”
It’s a community get together. Try getting out of your car and walking around at next month’s First Friday. Visit some galleries. Listen to some music. Check out the new KC Star Print Facility. Walk over to Union Station. Get a sub sandwich at Grinders. It might not be everyone’s idea of fun, but get out and try it while the weather is nice.
You might really enjoy it.
