Last year’s contentious election over protecting scientific research was supposed to settle the battle once and for all, but apparently the war had only just begun.  Despite a new constitutional amendment, Missouri’s fundamentalist-controlled government continues to perpetuate a strong anti-science climate.

This has prompted the Stowers Institute to put their expansion plans on hold yet again. But at the same time they have purchased a hundred acres of land near their Plaza-area campus.  It’s a huge tract of land.  UMKC’s campus has about 90 acres, so where in the urban core is there 100 acres available???

Note to Matt Bartle: When did you become telepathic so you could know that your anti-science attitude isn’t really why Stowers is putting his plans on hold even though he’s up front about saying so?

Stowers realized they could blackmail Missouri with the prospect of economic development; they’re just going to demand more concessions now.

This has little to do with science, it’s about our state government selling out to special interests.

No, it doesn’t. Remember, Stowers is a non-profit. It’s the for-profit companies that have an interest in that kind of thing. You’re just echoing Bartle’s statements. Since I know that the only reason he’s saying this kind of crap is to hide that his actions will cause not only Stowers but any other research that some church might decide it doesn’t like to not come to Missouri. They don’t want to be potentially handcuffed in the direction their research might take. But Bartle can’t have that truth realized so he claims other motivations and reasons to avoid blame coming his way. He’s a self-righteous fundamentalist twit who wants the state to ban any activity that he and his minister don’t approve of and sees no reason that the state and church shouldn’t merge. I wish he didn’t have so many people like him in this state.

note to Matt Barthole - when are you going to start representing the people who elected you instead of your fundamentalist string pullers.

Missouri voted YES on amendment 2! why dont you do your duty to carry out the will of the majority instead of spending our tax dollars fighting your personal moral crusade to strip down the will of the voters.
