New Blunt/Nixon Poll

July 28, 2007 |

Missouri State CapitolA new SurveyUSA poll commissioned by KCTV-5 shows Attorney General Jay Nixon with a big 57% to 38% lead over incumbent Governor Matt Blunt in the 2008 governor’s race.  What’s interesting is that Nixon leads across virtually all demographic and geographic groups, including in Blunt’s backyard in the Ozarks.  The only group where the governor has even the slightest lead is Generation Y.

Blunt is an idiot who takes pride in publicly displaying himself as an asshole, in the mold of Bush. He lost most people early on when he slashed health care for the indigent. You negative nancys can say what you will, but the people of Missouri are compassionate (and its two largest cities more progressive than they get credit for, especially KC) and stuff like that just rubs people the wrong way. I knew then that Blunt had done himself in; you could feel it in the air. The “Yep, I’m an asshole and proud of it” shtick will never fly in Missouri. There are too many caring, giving people here.

Blunt saw the early success of Bush and decided he wanted to be Dubya when he grew up. Ooops. Now it’s a failure of epic proportions. Cutting many thousands from Medicaid and doing stupid stuff like refusing to pay for batteries for wheelchairs of people who can’t walk doesn’t cut it with lots of people. Refusing to restore benefits when the state has more than enough money also is not a winning move.
