Koster switches

August 1, 2007 |

Harrisonville Republican Chris Koster is switching over to the Democratic Party. Koster was the fourth-ranking Republic in the Missouri Senate, but cites discontent with the party’s growing extremist agenda as the reason for the switch. As one of the few moderates left in the party, Koster was especially in conflict with his party over his outspoken defense of stem cell research and Republican attempts to criminalize scientific research.

It remains to be seen how the Democrats will receive their newest member and his ambitions to be next Attorney General. While Koster has swapped Jeff Roe for McCaskill’s Lis Smith, his recent votes for Medicaid cuts, MOHELA, and Voter ID will not be pleasing for his new party-mates.

Ready for the next act? The Senate Republicans have booted Chris out of his office in the Capitol, and refuse to assign him another. He’s out on the street! They say that the Dems only get 13 offices, so Chris doesn’t get one unless another Dem will give his or her’s up. That’ll teach him!
Never mind that the Capitol is for ALL Missourians, but now Cass County and Johnson County residents don’t have a public space to redress their Government in the Capitol.
