The City of Kansas City, Mo., Neighborhood and Community Services Department and Kansas City Neighborhood Advisory Council will hold a community forum about landlord registry Aug. 18. The landlord registry is part of the proactive rental registration and inspection program that the City is considering.
The meeting will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Health Department, 2400 Troost Ave.
The Kansas City Neighborhood Advisory Council is made up of residents who have demonstrated leadership experience and a commitment to working with others to improve the quality of life in the city’s neighborhoods. The Kansas City Neighborhood Advisory Council meets at 3:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month at the Robert J. Mohart Multi-Purpose FOCUS Center, 3200 Wayne Ave.
Any person with a disability desiring reasonable accommodation to attend this forum may call the City’s ADA specialist, (816) 513-2533. Attendees who are deaf or hard of hearing should contact Missouri Relay TTY assistance at least 24 hours prior to this event at 711 or (800) 735-2966.

That is late notice, but thank you for the reminder. It’s tough for most of us who are terminally busy to keep a lot of things top-of-mind.

Late notice indeed! That way they get as little informed opposition as possible. I am sure all the pro landlord taxing advocates were informed ahead of time.
I suggest we license tenants and when they destroy the property, fail to pay rent or skip out on the lease they loose all rental privileges and remain homeless!
Perhaps we should propose a tenant tax that would go to reimburse property owners who have to wait the 90 days it takes to get an eviction in Jackson County.
As I expected the city has once again failed in their stated obligation. It is now December 1, 2007 and even though http://www.kcmo.org states:
“Starting Dec. 1 ….. You will also be able to download an application from the City’s Web site (http://www.kcmo.org/neigh).”
They have not yet made the form available. So as I expected they passed a law, and provided no way to comply with the law so that they can fund this debacle with the fines they intend to impose on those that do not comply!
By making it impossible to register they can fine us for not registering!
This is not about neighborhoods it is about money!
So this law is to control all the absentee landlords that have deteriorating properties. But if you look, most of the deteiorated properties are vacant, with deceased owners, are owned by banks, or are waiting for repairs – they are not currently being offered for rental by anyone. And from everything I can read – they don’t need to be registered anyway. But can’t get an answer from my emailed questions to the city officials in charge.
