More Plaza Blight?
August 24, 2007 |
Yesterday the Star reported on a plan to “redevelop” a block of 1920s-era apartments along 46th and 47th Streets (Cleaver II Blvd) just east of the Plaza. The plan is replace them with a hotel and some condos, of course using TIF.
It should be very interesting to see how the developers try to spin the argument that historically significant buildings in good repair in a highly desirable neighborhood can be blighted. It should be even more interesting to see how the Mayor and City Council respond.
OOPS - The Kansas City Post has a much better report on this. Go check it out.

Blight has a new term these days. Any land which can be re-developed with or without structors can be called blighted.
Don’t worry those dam city council people won’t step in to help. They’ll be helping the developers. More campaigning funds
I’m not saying those buildings are blighted or not but there are some apt. buildings on the Plaza that have gone into irrepair.
As a resident of the Plaza, it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if some of the older buildings were just absolute crap.
