Downtown Open for (some) business

September 25, 2007 |

Today Mayor Funkhouser and the Downtown Council are holding a big press conference to hail the upcoming end of arena construction and declare that Downtown is “open for business” again.  Of course, one business that won’t be welcoming visitors to the Loop today is Danny Edwards BBQ. The last locally-owned BBQ joint Downtown was shoved out to make way for an as-yet-unknown redevelopment project that may or may not happen.  Danny recently opened his new restaurant on Southwest Boulevard.

Downtown property that close to the arena is gonna be too valuable for most little one-story buildings like that. And yes, of course there will be development in that spot.

Well, if Danny Edwards couldn’t afford the property, it inevitably goes to someone who can. And he was only open a few hours a day, so a less expensive space makes more sense. There are plenty of other places to eat lunch downtown.
