Ticket scalping legalized
September 19, 2007 |
The City Council is up in arms about Sprint Center concerts selling out instantaneously and is bringing in Ticketbastard for a public flogging. Most of the blame is being put on ticket brokers who buy up the tickets and then re-sell them at higher prices. In the past this has been illegal in Missouri, so these people do business from Kansas addresses.
It’s curious that the Star didn’t mention a recent change in Missouri law to legalize ticket brokers. It was a very small piece in a larger economic development bill passed in a recent emergency session of the Missouri General Assembly. It was a pretty unusual amendment until it become known that Ticketmaster’s chief lobbyist in Missouri is Andy Blunt, brother of Governor Matt Blunt.
So, if your pre-teen daughter is distraught about missing Hannah Montana, have her write a letter to the governor.

Hannah Whozawhatzit? Man I’m old…
Exactly, Mark. I had to figure out what a Hannah Montana was.
I’m sorry to disappoint teendom, but this is such a non-story. I would be open to limits on how many tickets you can buy, but the only reason this is such a story is due to the hissy fit white soccer moms have thrown. This didn’t happen when Van Halen, WWE, or the CBE basketball tourney went on sale at Sprint Center. Why? Because THERE WAS A LESSER DEMAND. It’s friggin’ economics, people.
People can roll their eyes over Toyota-gate or Semler-gate, but the fact that the city council is meeting over this, is pretty disturbing.
I just watched Channel 9. They reported that due to the huge stage, they were only 11,000 tickets available in the beginning. Case solved.
Yeah, but people like me who paid taxes to build it were denied a fair shot to buy tickets…come on…
If you want to see Hannah Montana you can! I believe so much in the secondary market when it comes to the acquisition of tickets that I wrote a book on the subject. Don’t be discouraged, there will be plenty of tickets available come concert time. Contact me for tips on scoring tickets to this concert or check out my book out at http://www.thepoormansticket.com

Tim,
Unless you’re renting a lot of cars and staying in hotels and motels around the city, your “tax dollars” aren’t paying for the Sprint Center.
Tim - I don’t know if you missed out on tickets for your kids, but you had a fair shot.
A friend was on line when tickets started selling and like everybody else, got sold out notice. So, what did she do? She spent $580 for 3 tickets from a “broker”. Is there no end people will go to please their kiddies? What in the world are people like this teaching their offspring? That money buys all, money means nothing when you really want something? We wonder why there are so many subprime mortgages..I happen to know the above people have had a hell of a time making their mortgage payments, and I no longer wonder why. Sad, sad sad. The days of personal responsibility are gone.
No, Drew, I don’t think most people are getting a “fair shot” at getting face-value tickets. And Patrick, if I can’t get the tickets using the same computers that the people who rent cars and stay in hotels do, then they’re not getting them either. Seems to me there are some “private” concerts going on.
