Arena Walking Challenge

October 9, 2007 |

Today several members of the City Council will take part in a challenge to demonstrate the parking and transit options within walking distance of Sprint Center arena. There is plenty of parking available, if the suburbatroids don’t freak out when they have to walk a few blocks. It won’t be any worse than walking from the outer reaches of the parking lots at Oak Park Mall or the Truman Sports Complex.

People have no problem paying over $20 for parking and then walking the equivalent of 5 blocks when it comes to a Chiefs’ football game.

I think the issue here isn’t the price or the walking distance as much as the unknown. Which parking lot do you pick? Will it be full? Will it be safe? Should I Park & Ride? I think once people go downtown a few times and try things out they will be pleasantly surprised.

I’m positive when the Big 12 tournament occurs next year that it’s going to be one HUGE party that people will love!

As long as there are bars along the path to the arena. People can stop to have a drink every 1 block.

Please just watch the signs and make sure you don’t park in a place that will get you ticketed and/or towed! Please be mindful of those of us who live downtown and have parking built into our rents. My neighborhood is so excited about the Sprint Center. It looks fantastic!

ok…so where’s the info?? How long did it take? How many homeless did they have to step over? How many cops escorted them? How many of those cops will be downtown to arrest the thugs pulling armed street robberies??
