Downtown has arrived

October 11, 2007 |

Even more important than the Sprint Center opening is the opening of a second Starbucks in the Loop.  Tomorrow it opens in the H&R Block headquarters at 13th and Main, which will be very convenient for folks that can’t be bothered to walk to the existing Starbucks at 12th and Main.

I thought the Plaza was ridiculous with Starbucks just three blocks apart, but I suppose you really know your city has arrived when it starts getting Starbucks within a block of each other.

Also look for locally-owned LatteLand to open a Downtown location next year in the Power & Light District.

That actually is good news IMO. Starbucks has a successful business model and they wouldn’t be opening stores that close together unless the foot traffic is there. More revenue. More sales tax in the city coffers.

Just an FYI - Starbucks intends to close the location at 12th and Main.

If that’s true it would be a shame. The location at 12th & Main at least has visibility. The one at 13th & Main is completely hidden from street and sidewalk view. Even the exterior sign is almost completely hidden from view. It seems to be a Starbucks just for H&R Block employees while the 12th & Main location is the Starbucks for everyone else.

Anyone thats been to Denver knows they have no qualms about opening a new one on the same block. And they need another one downtown, if not 2 or 3. River Market would be nice.

River Market, Crown Center, Crossroads District, somewhere on Broadway between 9th and 19th would be nice.

How much coffee do you people need?!? :)

Bring an apple from home, and get a drink from the water fountain.

    I’m kidding. (mostly)

I lived in NYC for three years, we have a LONG way to go if we are ever going to compete in teh Starbucks per square mile dept. Granted, it’s freaking New York, but I miss being able to be as lazy as possible in getting coffee and actually distinguishing between the Starbucks within a three block radius (one always is crappier than the other two)

Or, on second thought, I could just learn to live like a normal person and hope that the worst aspects of the coast don’t migrate here.

I am pretty sure I read an article in the last year about Starbucks opening multiple locations in the *same building* somewhere in NYC, but I can’t find the article. But I’m 98% positive about that…

Patrick L - where did you hear about Starbucks closing the City Center location? They never close stores, so I doubt it. Sbucks does this all the time - they do tight research to tell if another store is needed. They’ll do fine. I’m glad to hear about Latteland though. Also, try Magazines and Coffee down the hill. We need a coffee house in quality hill bad.

Is it open on Sundays? Please, God, let it be so!
