While MU and KU officials try to downplay their rivalry by making the Border War more politically correct, fans are heading in the opposite direction.  New t-shirts popping in Columbia, Lawrence, and on the Interwebs reference the Civil War border war between the two states.  There is much indignence on each side, as well as some creativity.  The Mizzou shirt depicts William Quantrill’s burning of Lawrence, while KU’s shirt features abolitionist John Brown.

The KU shirt is no longer for sale, but the MU shirt is still available.

I’m not quite sure wearing a shirt that proudly boasts of the murdering of people and the burning of their city is really healthy.

Of course, neither is wearing a shirt with the picture of a crazy gun-toting blood-thirsty religious fanatic.

It’s just a football game people.
    Let’s keep it classy.

I’m pretty sure that the words “classy” and “football” are mutually exclusive.

The Kansas shirt is kinda funny though.

gotta admit the great thing about the KU-Mizzou rivalry is that there is a history between the two states that’s greater than just football.

While I personally don’t get why anyone over the age of 24 cares about college sports, I find both of these shirts quite funny. :)

This is more than football, it is about the state line. Ppl here have always made sure to
mention that they live in KCMO not KC KS or vice versa. Its a pride thing. Even if you aint a fan of football, you are a fan of your chosen side of the line.

All you have to do is get 75 miles west of Kansas City to realize the only thing the jayhawkers have that resembles civilization is their college sports. That is why they will whine (or in Johnson County “wine”) all winter about the butt whipping they are going to get on November 24th.

    MIZZOU 42 jayhawks 20

It’s just a game. Keep it classy, right. Let’s do it again. After the game I-70 westbound will be a flood of torch-bearing tigers.
