Correction anthony, Kay Barnes is a graduate from UMKC's Bloch School of Business. She received her BA there. She then went on to Kansas for her graduate work. Kay is an avid supporter of UMKC and the Bloch School, yes Joe Valentine, Kansas City's University, you know the one you said no body in KC supports.

So the idea is that Mizzou fans are so pathetic that they'll base their vote next November on whether a candidate supports their football team? That seems to be the assumption made by those criticizing Barnes here.

Hmmm. she didn't go to school in missouri. She wasn't born in the 6th. She didn't move here until she was sure she' d' get on on 2nd term. Everything about her is fake. Wake up 6th. How is this woman any representation of those of us who work at Ford, the casinos, or farm for on on living?

As for me and my house, we will consume roasted jayhawk for our fowl feast, and enjoy it immensely.

As for Ms. Barnes, she is not engaging her brain before using her mouth, and as for her political machine, she is engaging in typical clintonista tactics to grease as many suckers, er, voters as double talk can delude.

For one thing Joe, Kay Barnes is a KU Alum., she's going to support her school as she should. Second, your right, if you mapquest Lawerence from KC it is not 25 mi. it's further. I'm sure you would agree that most people would consider KC and Lawerence not very far apart. My point about it bieng 25 miles west of KC is because it is really only that far away from Olathe and I consider Olathe a part of the KC metro, don't you? There is no one dissing UMKC, don't be dilusional. UMKC is a great city school with minimal sports and a small athletic department. People support the basketball program and I'm sure would support a football program if they had one. KU does, people will cheer for what they feel is a local team and I stand by my point the KU is Kansas City's university too, they are a major university not just some commuter offshoot of the Missouri system like UMKC.

What map are you using Adam? Go map Downtown KCMO to Downtown Lawrence- it's 40 miles, not 25. And when you consider that the majority of the metro population is east of State Line Road then it's more like 50 or 60 miles to Lawrence for most Kansas Citians.

Oh and we already have a "Kansas City's university" - it's called UMKC and it's right in the middle of the region. This weird attitude that people have about dissing UMKC and supporting an out of state school is part of what holds KC back. Every great city in the world has a strong urban university, except for KC. People like Kay Barnes who support KU over our own local university are part of the problem.

"It would be such poetic justice to see Kay have to watch the Kayhawks lose to MU in her new arena"

Poetic justice? Yes. Grounded in reality? No.

Actually I believe Kay is representing a very important demographic that makes up a large majority of the Kansas City area. She and so many Kansas Citians are graduates of KU and largely consider KU Kansas City's university. It's only 25 miles west of the metro area and most people who never went to KU or MU or KSU and are from the KC area are usually just KU fans. It's easy, KU has a wonderful winning tradition in college basketball and people like to cheer for winners.
