More Kline Followup

November 28, 2007 |

Yesterday the Phill Kline scandal continued onto talk radio, with Kline on KCMO-710 and the KCTV crew on KMBZ-980. Last night KCTV aired an extended special with a lot more content and a defense of the investigation.

I am somewhat torn by this story.

On one hand, I really HATE the local TV News. They traffic mainly in tawdry stories of perverts, murders and housefires, followed by 15 minutes of weather blathering and promos for the primetime lineup. And when they can’t find enough local tragedy, they give you stories about tragedies in OTHER TOWNS that have no relevance to Kansas City. I guess covering local politics and issues that have imporantance to the local public just doesn’t get good ratings - which is all that matters anymore. It wouldn’t shock me if KCTV 5 did every sleazy trick they know to make Kline look bad.

But, Phil Kline is a HORRIBLE public official. He puts his partisan right-wing Christian views above his duties to the county. Please, Phil Kline: just go away.

You’re not alone, ChrisM70. The full-on Internet perv treatment wasn’t necessary to get the story. Did they really need a helicopter shot of Kline’s car in the JoCo Courthouse parking lot? Did they really need to follow Kline and his wife around Topeka?

It seems there is/was enough evidence to nail Kline without having to go the stalker route.

I’m a right-wing Christian but you nailed this PERFECTLY, LOL. Yes that’s exactly what local news is all about and only about.

First Sheilds, then Funkhouser and now Phil.

Hold on there Greg, Kathryn Shields and her husband were found “not guilty”…while I’m very aware that having the best attorneys makes all the difference, the verdict stands. Kathryn Shields was convicted of NO wrong-doing…the “lynch mob” mentality needs to cease…
