KC Star: Pedestrian Stuck, Gravely Injured

A woman pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries this evening when two vehicles collided at an intersection and one of them struck the victim, who was on the sidewalk.

Kansas City police Sgt. Bill Mahoney said a car was southbound on Harrison Street about 6:18 p.m. when it was struck by a sport utility vehicle at the intersection with 31st Street. The car ran onto the sidewalk, striking the woman and gravely injuring her. A man walking with the victim suffered minor injuries.

The pedestrians were taken to hospitals, as was the driver of the car; the driver’s injuries were not considered life-threatening. Two persons in the SUV were not hurt.

Mahoney said officers still were trying to reconstruct the accident and did not know which vehicle had the right of way. Alcohol was not believed to be involved.
