Crime down across most of the city
December 27, 2007 |
Last weekend the Star published a big report showing that crime has dropped significantly in most KCMO neighborhoods since 2001. Areas seeing big decreases include much of the East Side, parts of the Westside, and the central corridor from Downtown to Waldo. Crime was up in parts of the Old Northeast and post-WWII suburban-type neighborhoods like the inner Northland and Hickman Mills and Ruskin Heights in the far south.
The Star article includes PDF files listing the details for each of the city’s 240 neighborhoods.

You would think crime was WAY up the way the sleazy local TV news stations lead with shootings and stories of arrested perverts.
I guess those are the only stories that can get people to watch the news.
How about if they would run a story about the children living in poverty in Johnson County is up 92 PERCENT? </a?
My guess is if it’s getting worse in JoCo, then there are a lot of people all over the metro area who are living in poverty, but if you watched local TV, you would never know it - they are too busy reporting on Britney Spears.
That was a great article and it was interesting that over 80 percent of the cities neighborhoods saw a drop in total crimes.
Maybe the neighborhoods are fighting back.
I wonder if conceal & carry has anything to do with the lowered crime rates.
I’m sure it does.
would someone please tell beth gottstein?

I live in mid-town and I’d have to say that not much has changed…. in fact I just got my family’s van stolen right our of my driveway.
I don’t think auto theft has a lot to do with neighborhoods, though. Most of them are stolen by traveling professional bands of thieves.
What??? Traveling band of thieves? That steal late 80’s chevy vans? Sounds like a high dollar group. Maybe they needed a van to tour in.
I also had a guy leave a .32 revolver in my garage and come to my door wanting permission to go get it…
