Amato, Buh-Bye

January 23, 2008 |

This is certainly the week for turnover.  The Parks Board, the Governor’s Mansion, and now the Board of Education.  Anthony Amato has resigned after less than two years as Superintendent of the KCMO School District.

No one should be suprised.  It is a well-established pattern.  First, the school board hires someone with lofty talk about reform and “shaking things up.”  Then, the board freaks out when they are presented with the reality of changing the status quo. Finally, the same board trashes the guy and runs him out of town.

There is a lot of talk about how the superintendent’s office has a revolving door, but no one ever talks about how us voters keep electing the same shitty school board members.

superintendents need to shake just a little more gently. seriously… break up the district and let’s move on.

Too many times, there aren’t even choices for the school board because no one wants to sign up for this mess.

There is at least one really great candidate running in April…I say we vote in the new blood and make a really good run at making changes — and not running a new superintendent off every 2 years.

Break the board up they have too much power and we lsot a good guy trying to make some real changes the kids are suffering and I think the board members are feeling too hungry for the power. Amato never should have been released. I think desegregation of the board would help.
