KC vs STL?

February 4, 2008 |

Yesterday the Star ran a small blurb on State Senator Yvonne Wilson’s attempts to expand an economic development law benefiting St. Louis to also include Kansas City. St. Louis legislators are resisting the move and the Star is portraying this is a St. Louis vs Kansas City fight.

But where was Senator Wilson and the Star last August when this bill was passed? It was kindof a big deal back then, because Governor Blunt called the General Assembly back for a special session to vote on the bill. The whole thing was designed to benefit Paul McKee, a suburban St. Louis slum lord and Republican campaign donor who owns hundreds of blighted properties in northern St. Louis City and wants at least $150 million in tax breaks to redevelop that land.

At the time it was common knowledge in Jeff City that this economic development bill was meant to help one developer in one city, so why didn’t the KC delegation and KC media raise a stink about it back then? Were they not paying attention? Were they lazy? Did they not care?

A lot of times things in Jeff City get portrayed as a KC vs STL fight, but a lot of times Kansas City isn’t even fighting.  Somone needs send the KC delegation a memo to let them know that KC is now the biggest city in the state and it’s time we started acting like it.

Wow. I wasn’t aware of that. Or the issues.

Who’s minding the store for KC?

Judging from the effort that Jolly, Sanders Brooks, and Curls put into being a KCMO legislator, I can see why no one from KCMO figured that out.

It’s hard to do that when you are worried about winning your next race so that you can continue to suck from the public nipple.

It’s also hard to do that when you’re under investigation for using campaign funds to pay for your house payment.

Face KCMO, you elect these imbeciles that the Democratic machine pulls from the bus stop and you wonder why they don’t do anything to make KCMO a better place.
