Sugar Creek Casino Approved
February 21, 2008 |
This week the Missouri Gambling Gaming Commission unanimously approved a new casino for Sugar Creek in eastern Jackson County. The small community north of Independence sees this as an opportunity to revitalize an inner-ring suburb struggling with the loss industry and people. The existing casinos say that one of them could be forced to close due competition from the Sugar Creek casino and a planned casino in KCK.
While Ameristar is the closest to Sugar Creek, the Isle of Capri near Downtown KCMO is probably the most vulnerable. Its owners have made few investments to keep it competitive, and the looming Paseo Bridge replacement is sure to create two years of traffic headaches on the Isle of Crap’s doorstep. The loss of that casino would be a big hit to an already challenged KCMO city budget.

The casino industry is what it is. I doubt that new ones opening is going to excite anyone, or that the closing of one will change gamblers’ habits. I never think about the casinos unless someone else brings the subject up.
Isle of Capri has never looked like a promising casino. I’m surprsied they lasted this long

Great. Just what we need is another Casino in an already-poor area. Hopefully this one will be as successful as the others after the new wears off and no one goes there anymore.
