Wingnuts in our backyard
February 7, 2008 | 9 Comments
“To elect Barack Obama to the highest office in the land would be nothing less than spitting on the graves of the victims of 9/11”
That’s a quote from a newspaper editorial from Ottawa, Kansas, which is 60 miles southwest of KC. It is making the rounds of the blogosphere this morning. Wonkette has the full text, and it’s definitely worth reading. The wingnut argues that Senator Obama is a secret Muslim intent on bringing down the US government. It’s got everything but evolution, cloning, and One World Government.
This bit was redacted when the piece was put on the web:
“Some Web sites suggest Obama will not recite the Pledge of Allegiance. He refuses to wear an American flag lapel pin. He will not face the flag during the playing of the National Anthem nor will he sing it or even mouth the words. “

Wow. That’s completely disgraceful. Only a bunch of weasel words prevent this from being libel of the sort that should be acted upon.
Ha! Oh man, the state of Kansas is a PR nightmare.
I’m guessing that 2008 will be chock-full of this kind of crap. Good times!
Obama won by a huge margin in KS. An embarrassingly wider margin than he took MO. :/
the damn thing is rigged anyway, they have been rigging elections for years
rigging elections… duh
Does this surprise anyone? We’re smack dab in the middle of wingnut country.
And Missourians (I am one) shouldn’t be too smug just because this came from Kansas. I can guarantee you things like this little nugget and the fact that Obama is black kept rural Missouri from voting for him on Tuesday.
You think a few Kansans are the only ones with these idiotic views?
Try watching this without throwing up…

Actually, it’s so ridiculous I was laughing the whole time. Anyone who believes that kind of crap already thinks like that anyway, so they don’t have to be persuaded. Reminds me of when I went to a screening of “Outfoxed”; when they showed a graph showing the beliefs of people who watched Fox News vs. the beliefs of people who didn’t, there was an audible gasp in the theater as if Fox was influencing opinion. No, the people who watch that crap ALREADY think that way, that’s why they’re so comfortable watching it. Does anyone think free thinkers listen to Rush Limbaugh, for example?
Oh, and Funkfan, the reason Obama did so much better in KS than MO is that Kansas is a caucus, not a primary. Obama has won everywhere there’s a caucus. Once voters hear the arguments and reasoning in favor of Obama, many people switch their votes. Obama had better get the nomination or McCain will be the next president.
