Don’t freak out if you see the closed sign on Chubby’s diner on Broadway in Midtown.  Joyce Smith reports that it is only temporary. It seems that the LaBruzzo brought in an outside operator last year, and now they are in the process of bringing the diner back in the family as the LaBruzzo grandsons take over ownership.

With Nichols gone and Chubby’s out of commission, this serious limits options for post-partying breakfast in Westport and Midtown.  Poncho’s Mexican drive-thru is still a 3:00 a.m. staple on Main Stree, but for classic diner food you will have to venture Downtown to the Crossroads District for one of the two Town Topics or Denny’s.  So far the posh Power & Light District has shown no interest in an all night diner.

Anyway, good luck to the LaBruzzo family and thanks for keeping a Midtown institution alive.

Don’t forget about YJ’s Snack Shop. They’re open 24h on the weekends, and they’re fantastic.

Yeah I should have mentioned YJs. I just gave up them long ago because it’s impossible to get one of the three tables at 3:30 in the morning. And then you have to convince the barista to put down her bong so she can take your order.

Only the Town Topic on Broadway is open all night. The one on Baltimore closes at 3 p.m. during the week, and isn’t open on weekends at all. The downtown Denny’s hasn’t been a 24-hour restaurant in years, they close at 10 p.m.

Another late-night option is El Rancho (”Fast Fresh Mex”) in Westport, in the strip where Chili’s is…they advertise as being open “after the bars close”…till 4 a.m., I think.

If Chubby’s wan’t 24 hours, they would sink. That place is disgusting. How many finger cots can you find in one plate in one sitting before it’s disgusting to someone!? the “REAL” Chubby’s…ummmm, there is an Indian food dispersing place there now…no suburban eatery is an original…in case you forgot what the prefix ’sub’ means…

Been to Chubby’s. Twice. I still smell of smoke and can taste my food. That was 3 months ago. Most overrated crap hole in a city filled with crappy restaurants.

If it was so bad, why did you go back a second time?
