The Examiner has a feature on Jeff Ogle and Highway AA Auto Sales in Grain Valley. Jeff is the first dealer in Missouri or Kansas to sell the ZENN (Zero Emission, No Noise) automobile. The all electric car costs less than $100/year to operate, has a range of 30-50 miles, and a top speed of 40 m.p.h.
While the ZENN is marketed towards the urban commuter, Kansas Citians will have to trek out to the outer suburbs to purchase one. Just be sure to bring along a flatbed trailer, since you’ll be lucky if the car’s battery lasts long enough to get you home from Grain Valley.

Is it just me, or does that look strangely like a Yugo?
A top speed of 40mph? It’s FASTER than a Yugo!
I live in Grain Valley and drive by these every day.. I don’t believe they have sold any of them.. With a price around 14,000..it’s purely a waste of money and I can’t see anyone spending money on them..
I don’t think it’s fair to dismiss these cars as a “waste”.
Yes, they are somewhat expensive considering the range and speed, but that doesn’t mean this car wouldn’t be perfect for a urban commuter who drives a short bit to work on side roads every day. I’m sure years ago people said that DVD players, Plasma screen televisions and personal computers were a waste.
It’s people who sell and buy as early adopters that make these products more viable in the future. Let’s support the electric car – not dismiss it because it’s not perfect right out of the box.
As a Zenn owner myself, I slightly disagree with the article.
The Zenn, a very nice Neighborhood Electric Vehicle (NEV), has a summertime range of about 35 miles. During cold winter days the range can get down into the single digits.
The Zenn has a programmable (from a laptop) controller. Adjusting the controller parameters with a laptop can get cruising speed on level roads up to 35 mph or a little higher, but I’ve never heard of a Zenn that would cruise as fast as 40 mph.
