The Zenn, a very nice Neighborhood Electric Vehicle (NEV), has a summertime range of about 35 miles. During cold winter days the range can get down into the single digits.

The Zenn has a programmable (from a laptop) controller. Adjusting the controller parameters with a laptop can get cruising speed on level roads up to 35 mph or a little higher, but I’ve never heard of a Zenn that would cruise as fast as 40 mph.

Yes, they are somewhat expensive considering the range and speed, but that doesn’t mean this car wouldn’t be perfect for a urban commuter who drives a short bit to work on side roads every day. I’m sure years ago people said that DVD players, Plasma screen televisions and personal computers were a waste.

It’s people who sell and buy as early adopters that make these products more viable in the future. Let’s support the electric car – not dismiss it because it’s not perfect right out of the box.
