Those tweens distraught over Hannah Monana tickets sure are a powerful lobby in Jeff City.  KMBC-9 reports that Rep. Stan Salva is sponsoring legislation to outlaw ticket scalping.  KMBC failed to mention that less than a year ago Salva voted to legalize ticket scalping….

I hate to say this, but at the end of the day, scalping is a service. There is not a single event out there that there are “no tickets available”. It’s just about how much you’re willing to pay. On some levels I appreciate it. On others, it stinks. I have such mixed emotions on this one…

I think we should go back to the way it used to be done. Stand in line and buy the tickets, real tickets, when they go on sale. Four to a person, that’s it. In a publicly funded venue, the public should have a real shot at face-value priced tickets.

Scalping is not a service. Scalpers take a disproportionate number of tickets, leaving fewer for people that aren’t making a habit of trying to game the system constantly. An artist can believe in selling tickets at reasonable prices for their fans and scalpers can ruin the concept and price many people out of the market.

I agree with Jim. The scalpers are called scalpers for a reason, and it ain’t a good one.
