New polls in Governor and 6th Congressional District races
May 21, 2008 |
A new pair of polls commission by SurveyUSA for KCTV-5 have been released in the race for Missouri Governor and the 6th Congressional District. Neither poll includes trend data, so they are just snapshots of today’s number.
In the race for governor, Democrat Attorney General Jay Nixon has a commanding lead against both Republican opponents, Congressman Kenny Hulshof and State Treasurer Sarah Steelman. Nixon is polling at almost 60% in against each opponent. He leads in every geographic area of the state and among independents, plus Nixon also picks up a decent chunk of Republicans.
Things are much closer in the race for Missouri’s 6th Congressional district. Incumbent Republican Sam Graves leads former KC Mayor Kay Barnes 49-39. Graves looks really vulnerable by being an incumbent under 50%, but so far Barnes has yet to exploit that vulnerability. She’s losing almost 20% of Democrats to Graves, and is virtually tied with him in Kansas City, which should be her stronghold. She’s also trailing in St. Joseph, her hometown which usually has a strong Democratic presence.

Sarah Steelman: “I wrote the amendment to protect marriage”…whose marriage is so fragile and in danger that it needed to be protected? And from what?
I know, and she promotes hate in the name of god. She won’t win and afterwards, she should consider moving to Kansas where she can practice law in the name of god. It is reprehensible that ‘religious’ people translate the constitution in a way that furthers their agenda…not everyone believes in the same god or possibly, not a god at all. Beyond that, our laws are atheistic if not post-theistic.
If I’ve ever lived through an election that was won on “bread and butter” issues, this is the one. Some Republicans still don’t get it, obviously. They’ve wrecked the economy and still think they can get elected. Phooey. The dollar has tanked because money is being printed at warp speed to pay for a war we started based on FALSE PRETENSES, and it’s DESTROYING our economy. Between that and it’s making OIL more expensive since its price is based on the U.S. dollar. And more expensive gasoline is sending the price of everything, including FOOD, through the roof. All at a time when energy supplies are dwindling and the people in China and India are competing for the same oil. I noticed in her TV ad, Steelman’s sons appear to be late teens, almost old enough to be put in uniform and sent to IRAQ.
Sam Graves Continues yet another negative campaign to win this district. He is a prime example of how negative ads seem to actually work. Wait till later when this race heats up and he has to account for his horrible record.
