Sure makes a strong case of returning to a community focus with strong local schools that are within walking/biking distance.
Oh, and on a related note, I heard on the radio over the weekend that a school district in Minnesota is going to longer school days, but only going 4 days a week to save on fuel costs…
Yeah I hear that some companies are planning on doing the 4 day work week due to higher gas prices.
according to the documentary “contested streets”, one of the interviewees notes that in the 70s about 75% of children biked or walked to school. now that number is about 15%.
