Hot race in the 44th

June 9, 2008 |

It looks like the most interesting race in the fall is going to be the Democratic primary in Missouri’s 44th House District, which covers southern KCMO neighborhoods like Waldo and Red Bridge. It’s shaping up to be a contest between lobbyist Amy Coffman and lawyer and Afghanistan veteran Jason Kander.

Debate between supporters on local political blogs has gotten heated at times, something that Kander has even mentioned in a recent fund raising letter.  Like the Clinton/Obama race,  gender seems to be a key subtext.  Jenee Lowe is the outgoing Rep, and many want to see another woman replace her.  Coffman has lined up the endorsements of prominent female legislators like City Councilmember Beth Gottstein, State Rep. Beth Low, and State Senator Jolie Justus, while Kander has City Councilmember Jan Marcason.

Gone Mild: Amy Coffman disdains the “senseless world of blogging.”
