Westport vs. P&L

July 24, 2008 | 2 Comments

The feature in this week’s Pitch is a big comparison of nightlife in Westport and Downtown’s new Power & Light District. The gist of is that the big hordes have moved Downtown and Westport is still going strong with a tamer, more local crowd.

The Pitch: Power & Light vs. Westport

Westport feels like a neighborhood again, rather than a weekend destination that attracts the popped-collar, d-bag set.

Many of them reminded me of my parents – middle-aged empty nesters who used to go to the Plaza and felt too old for (or threatened by) Westport. Young or old, nearly everyone I talked to was from the suburbs or beyond – Topeka, Springfield, St. Louis.

The question isn’t whether the Pitch or a hand ful of locals like the smaller crowd in Westport, it’s whether the bars and clubs down there can make it with out the “popped-collar, d-bag set.”

Not sure about Westport, but last weekend P&L had lines of at least 100 deep at every bar, and walking through the courtyard was difficult because of the crowd.
