Rumor has that McCoy’s Public House in Westport might be offering a free beer to anyone wearing their “I Voted” sticker.  Democrats are planning watch parties at the Dark Horse Tavern in Westport and the Flying Saucer Downtown in the Power & Light District. Light Rail proponents will be at the Westport Flea Market. Anyone know about Republican parties?

Update 9:00 a.m. - The Star reports a big mix-up in Ward 5 in Midtown left several polling places with the wrong voter lists. Ward 5 includes the neighborhoods of Westport, Volker, Roanoke, West Plaza, Southmoreland, and northern half of the Country Club Plaza.  Lines got really backed up first thing in the morning, but it’s supposed to be fixed now.

Update 8:00 a.m. - Just received some reports of problems at Garfield Elementary School in the Old Northeast area. Apparently all of the touch screen machines are broken, as is the machines that scan in paper ballots. Our tipster says that they have stacks of ballots sitting around waiting to be scanned.

I have a feeling that there won’t be many Repbulican “parties” tomorrow…just a hunch.

  2. Mark Forsythe on November 4, 2008 7:52 am

I was 23rd in line at 5:20AM. Ward 6 Precinct 10. By 6:00AM the line was probably about 200. It was starting to decrease by 6:30AM. I’d say the wait is about 45 minutes right now.

Downtown, at 12th and Washington, there were 150 or so folks in line at 6:05. Usually there’s like 4.

I also voted at Ward 6 Precinct 10 after Mr. Forsythe. It was completely issue free and the poll workers were really nice, they did a great job of keeping the line moving.

I had big problems at Big Brothers and Sisters at 39th and Washington. I was about the 25th person in line at 5:30 and was into the polling place at 6am…they had the wrong polling books and no one was able to vote until 7:30. I sent along pics to Mr. Nelson of people sitting on the floor. At some points people were afraid for their safety because of the downhill way it spiralled after people realized what was going on. Some woudl say almost riotous at some points…

I voted this morning at 81st and Ward Parkway Plaza. I was about 100th in a line of about 250. It only took 45 minutes. The line had shortened significantly by the time I left, Good job KCEB!

I was in Ward 5 this morning where the list mix-up was and it wasn’t a problem. We waited for an hour, but that was mostly because there were a bunch of people there. People just called in for their numbers or brought their voter cards, so it wasn’t a big deal.
