The city is warning Downtown workers that a day-long motivational speaker event will mean more traffic during the morning and evening rush hours. Tomorrow will be a good day to take the bus or shift your schedule. Or spend the day telecommuting from a van down by the river.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Nov. 10, 2008City alerts motorists to increase in traffic Nov. 12
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Public Works Department is alerting motorists who commute downtown to expect heavier-than-usual traffic Wednesday, Nov. 12 due to the “Get Motivated” event scheduled for Sprint Center. The day-long event is expected to bring an additional 20,000 people into the downtown area.
Monthly parkers in City garages will not be affected. Daily parkers near Sprint Center and City Hall will experience a greater demand at parking facilities.
A shuttle service will operate between Kemper Arena parking lots and Sprint Center to meet increased demand for daily parking. The shuttle service will run between 5:45 a.m. and 6 p.m. Attendees of the event are recommended to park at Kemper Arena.
Media inquiries about traffic congestion and municipal parking should be directed to Dennis Gagnon, public information officer for the Public Works Department, (816) 513-2659.

I would rather get advice from guy who lives “in a van down by the river” than Rudy Giuliani. I wonder if during his speech he’ll mention 9/11?
Plus, I hope Powell gives a re-creation of his speech back in 2003 where he “motivated” the U.N. to join us in starting a pre-emptive, unncessary war.
Of course, if those two guys don’t motivate you, perhaps a pep-talk from a tight-end who plays for a 1-8 football team will get the job done.
By the way, if you are going to use the parking lots at Kemper Arena for an event – why don’t you just hold the event at KEMPER ARENA?
Some people are so positive! I would love to spend the day listening to ChrisM70. What a motivator.
John,
If you don’t find the truth positive enough, who’s fault is that?
These motivation seminars are about prominent speakers getting rich, and not really about motivating people.
Example:
Why get advice from Rudy? He’s been married 3 times. He helped lie to the American people about the safety of air quality in New York around Ground Zero. Guiliani has also had issues with ethics as Mayor (Bernard Kerik). He’s not someone that I would pay money to see.
If you want to be REALLY motivated, go watch some of the videos that are on the TED talks website. Many of these videos feature smart and inspirational people.
