Perhaps, also, the Mayor and City Council could set an example for the rest of the community by taking pay cuts. For example, Atlanta (very similar to KC in many respects), in 2008 had THREE rounds of job cuts and are closing 22 recreation centers. There are many things to consider when looking at what is causing this budget shortfall. My personal favorite however is to give the Northland, with exception of the airports, their own autonomy. A KC-MO FD battalion consists of about 3-4 stations per battalion. Closing 2 battalions would close around 6-8 stations.
