West Edge bankrupt

Bob Bernstein’s big white whale has filed for bankruptcy.  The massive West Edge office/hotel/retail project under construction on the west side of the Country Club Plaza filed after losing a lawsuit with JE Dunn over unpaid construction bills.  Hopefully this is just a legal manuever to get out of paying damages to JE Dunn, and the project will be finished.

Meanwhile, residents of the West Plaza and Poet’s District neighborhoods will have to continue dealing with a giant mess in the middle of their midst.

The complex was designed starchitect Moshe Safdie, who also designed the Performing Arts Center under construction Downtown. It was approved over strong objections from the neighborhood, including the destruction of historic apartment buildings.

The city needs give them a deadline so the lanes that they have been blocking can be opened. They should be fining them now for every day that they are currently using those lanes.

Can I just say? What exactly was wrong with the apartments that used to be there?

Nothing. But ego and money frequently top common sense.

I live a block from this mess/eyesore now. what a complete, total and utter mess this has been. And now, still is, into the future.
    Thanks, Bob!
