KC was roiled by by a Twitterstorm last night after the DJ Jazzy Jeff was kicked off the stage in the Power & Light District for playing hip hop music. Which is bizarre, since the Cordish Co. surely knew what kind of music he played when they hired him. Apparently the dress code was just the tip of the iceberg, and Cordish is more desperate to keep the P&L whitebread than anyone imagined. And this year KCMO taxpayers are spending $4 million to cover P&L’s deficit!
Pitch: DJ Jazzy Jeff says he was booted off stage at Power & Light for playing hip hop.
Update: The Pitch has an official response from Cordish, which claims it was the volume, not the content of the music. The trouble is, with Cordish’s track record the original racial scenario still sounds entirely plausible.

@BlogKC
Check out all the comments on the Pitch post you linked. Looks like the situation may have been more complicated than just Cordish not wanted any hip-hop. Regardless, it looks like they handled the situation very poorly.

Open your eyes. Maybe Kansas City doesnt want the P&L District to turn into another Bannister Mall. Maybe they dont want the clubs to be closed down like the 20 dozen in the last 10 years.
Who is writing these nonsense articles without any research into what actually happened at the Power and White (give me a break) District? WRN, huh? The author should find a new career.
