I don't see it as an affront to other stores. TJ's has things those stores don't, such as really good frozen offerings you can't find anywhere else, frozen fresh fish that you can afford, and a number of house brands of everything from cereal to tortilla chips to olive tapenade that are better than most national and specialty brands (their pita crackers are superb as are their frozen cubes of garlic, basil and cilantro, great for recipes when you don't want to buy a whole bunch of fresh garlic, basil and cilantro that invariably goes bad before you can use it all).

And I love their huge jugs of brewed unsweetened black tea during this time of the year (although I've been introduced to the Red Diamond jugs of brewed tea, which is also very nice).

I recently moved back here after 30 odd years away and have been very pleased with Cosentino's and Hen House as well as Nature's Pantry. But TJ's offers things those stores don't and I'd like to have it as another offering in the city.

I do love the fact I can't find a Safeway or Albertson's or other national main-stream chain here. Speaks well of the city.

This seems like such an extreme measure. Not to mention an affront to the local grocery store chains here who are doing some pretty good things - like Hen House with its Buy Fresh Buy Local, and Cosentino's with their highly acclaimed Brookside and downtown markets. We have good stores here.

Seems completely contrary to TJ's mission. By the time you drive those slivered Almonds from St. Louis, you're probably paying a premium. I'd imagine whoever is doing this is going to have to mark the stuff up to pay for the journey.

Completely ridiculous. The only reason people obsess about TJ's so much is because we don't have one. Yes, they are good stores but saving 20% on slivered almonds won't change your life.

Maybe that will give Trader Joe's the hint (not like it's the best economy to opening a new store or anything....)
