Main Street dealership victim of GM collapse
June 4, 2009 | 2 Comments
Midtown’s Conklin Fangman Cadillac/Buick/Pontiac at Linwood and Main is one of the many dealerships being cut loose by a dying General Motors. The historic Major Cadillac was renovated by new owners just two years ago.
The dealership’s loss could be a setback to the ongoing revival of the Main Street Corridor, but it could also present an opportunity for a great mixed-use redevelopment project adjacent to the MAX rapid transit line. Hopefully the neighborhood and City Hall will insist on a higher quality redevelopment than the awful car wash under construction on the site of the nearby Main Street Chevrolet. The Cadillac site was once home to the historic Pla-Mor ballroom, so the site deserves much more than a car wash or strip mall.
Business Journal: Conklin-Fangman will close June 13.

Thank god it is leaving! I am all for more development along the Max route and possible future rail line. The less cars, parked or in motion, the better! Oh, and good luck getting the bankruptcy court to side with car dealers…they are about as liked as the taxman!
Unfortunately the Fisher Family screwed up (royally) the block facing Main on the Soutwest corner. They should be ashamed. Hopefully we can get a decent development there that will benefit Main Street.
