More convenient glass recycling on the way

Ripple Glass is a new offshoot of Boulevard Brewing Co. that is building a local glass processing center.  This fall the company will build a network of collection sites around the city and suburbs. Their pulverized glass will then be used by a local plant for manufacturing insulation.

While the city has a very successful curb-side recycling program, the lack of glass recycling is a big problem.  Right now residents have to haul their glass long distances to drop-off centers in the suburbs.  And that glass is then trucked as far away as St. Louis or Oklahoma for processing. Hopefully in a few months more of us will have much more convenient access to glass recycling.

Having just moved here from Portland, OR, I’m still in shock over the lack of recycling options (I live out in Blue Springs), most especially glass, which I tend to collect more than plastic and tin cans. So keep us posted about this. I’ll certainly bring my glass.

  2. Nice! Glad to hear it!
