Firefighters union set to take over MAST ambulance
September 16, 2009 | Comments Off
Thursday is the day that it appears the firefighters union will finally get full control over the Metropolitan Ambulance Services Trust. The City Council has been moving aggressively to absorb the independent agency into city government. Events recently took a turn that confirmed many conspiracy theories – the takeover plan now includes merging MAST into the Fire Department.
While the city is making arguments about cost savings and efficiencies, many are worried about concentrating even more power in the hands of the Local 42 of the International Association of Firefighters. Some argue that the firefighters union is the most power special interest in Kansas City.
Before they vote, the City Council will hold an obligatory public hearing at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, on the 26th Floor of City Hall.
