Weekend entertainment overload

Just your average weekend here in flyover country…

Art Westport – 30th annual art fair featuring local artists. Friday-Sunday at Westport Road & Pennsylvania Street.

Quixotic – Saturday at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. The innovative local dance/music/art fusion performs outdoors as part of the museum’s 75th birthday celebrations.

Lyric Opera presents Tosca – Starts Friday at the Lyric Theater.

Tour of Missouri professional bicycle race – Sunday in Washington Square Park. Get up close and personal with some of the world’s most elite athletes in an event that’s bigger than the Superbowl and World Series combined. Also this weekend a health/wellness expo, kids race, and the AIDS Bicycle Challenge.

Crossroads Music Festival – Saturday at various venues in the Crossroads Arts District. Local acts are featured at venues like The Brick, Crosstown Station, Czar Bar, and Skylight Room.

    Well, I for one will be seeing John Prine at the Midland. Oh yeah, and heading to Boonville to the Missouri River Valley “Back To The Farm” Reunion. Tractors, you know.

    There will also be a car show in downtown Shawnee on Sunday for all of the gear heads in the metro. There will be outdoor food stands, Gellato from Aunt Jean’s (a must try for sure), and plenty of nice cars to look at.

    9th Kansas City Improv Festival

    Jason Sudakis, Overland Park native and SNL cast member, will be performing Saturday night. Other national and local acts featured Thursday and Friday nights.
