dave-o: your argument is lame. Using your logic, people fighting for any cause should be looked down upon because they consider their issue a higher priority than poor people.

Lets substitute a couple words in your last sentence to see who else is indifferent to the poor.

"gay rights" folks consider equality a higher priority than poor people.

"women's rights" folks consider sexism a higher priority than poor people.

"civil rights" folks consider discrimination a higher priority than poor people.

Trying to rank issues by importance is pointless. Individually and collectively, we can multitask.

If helping poor people on the east side is your thing, then work on that. I can work on trying to get better heath care for us. My sister can work on gay rights and my neighbor can help expand our circle of compassion by looking out for animal rights. Maybe I'll also help out my sister or neighbor - after all, their issues are legitimate too.

That cracks me up, I've been calling JoCo the Land of Beige for years.
What these arm-chair animal rights activists don't get is that if deer are over populated, there will not be enough food, if there is not enough food, the deer will starve and get sickly, sickly deer = disease. It is more humanitarian to cull the population than to allow over population

More people will be shot on Kansas City's East Side this year than deer will be shot in Shawnee Mission Park. But the suburbanite "animal rights" folks consider deer a higher priority than poor people.
