The city’s historic Old Northeast area recently lost is Community Development Corporation (CDC), Old Northeast, Inc. In KC, CDCs are local non-profits that work on neighborhood stabilization, revitalization, housing development, crime reduction, social services, etc. The northeast CDC served neighborhoods like Pendleton Heights, Scarritt Renaissance, Indian Mound, etc. ONE’s closure leaves a big void in a part of the city with a lot of potential and lot of needs.

The real cost of the Sprint Center and P&L District has been the neighborhoods in KC. Old Northeast, Inc. is just the latest in a long string of CDC collapses in the last couple of years. Money that WAS going to neighborhoods got re-routed to downtown development. KC has gone from “one of the most live-able cities in America” to a “nice place to visit, but you don’t want to live there.”
