The City has once again successfully challenged the Census Bureau’s annual population estimate. We are now 480,120 strong. As recently as last year the official count was 450,000. A 2008 study says that the population could be as high as 533,000. In related news, the Star is continuing a weird obsession with a supposed population race between us and Omaha.
- KC Star: Official population grows by almost 30,000.
- BlogKC, February 2009: KC population revised to 475,000.
- BlogKC, July 2009: Star runs odd and inaccurate story about the population of KC and Omaha
- BlogKC, June 2008: Study says city population tops half a million.
The next full count of the Census occurs in early 2010. There is a good chance that migration back to central cities coupled with Northland growth will put our official population over half a million.
