Prime Buzz reports that opponents of the Tomahawke Ridge leap frog development north of KCI have gathered enough petition signatures to force a super majority of the City Council to approve the rezoning of the land – nine votes out of thirteen instead of the usual seven. However, the annexation still needs just seven votes, and it will be voted on first.
This development sets up an interesting scenario that could ultimately resolve the controversy in the best long-term interests of the city.
1. Annex the 300-plus acres of farmland with seven votes.
2. Deny the rezoning and bank the land until it’s really needed and contiguous development reaches that far out.
At the moment, this issue schedule to come up for a vote at the City Council meeting at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.

@BlogKC
let DesMoines annex it … it’s closer.
We are still short on our police force up here and still waiting at 4 plus years.We don’t have infill yet,and should be following a “focus program”. Not have leap frog devolment,but the morons at city hall just don’t get it. We wait for 20 minitues for a police call now,MAST won’t make it much faster,bulky item pick-up just won’t happen in that neighborhood,and the snow will melt before the trucks make it out that far.So ED just why do we need more housing that far out? Would it be to repair roads we don’t have money for? To rasie out taxes for another school? Don’t tell me it’s housing for the people at the Airport when on either side of 152 HWY we have housing that has not been sold.
